Sallah: Don’t use phones while driving, FRSC urges Gombe motorists
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has warned motorists to stop using their phones while they drive.
Mr Samson Kaura, the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state gave the advice in a press statement issued in Gombe on Tuesday by Janet Kassa, the Public Education Officer of the command.
Kaura said that making use of phones on the steering wheel is not only dangerous but a violation of traffic laws.
He said that the advice was in line with the Corps’ responsibility to ensure adequate and free flow of traffic in the state during the Eid-El Kabir Sallah celebration.
He further advised against other infractions like speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, mix-loading, fake number plates and route violations, adding that these violations often lead to serious and fatal road traffic crashes.
Kaura, however said the corps has deployed 613 Regular and special marshals, 14 operational vehicles, 1 tow truck to ensure free flow of traffic and safety throughout the period of the celebration.
“The deployed personnel are for traffic control, rescue services, clearing of road obstruction and a reminder to the public of the need to drive cautiously so as to avoid the menace of road traffic crashes on our roads.”
He also said that the special patrol which commenced on Monday to end by May 31.
The Sector Commander called on the people of Gombe to abide by the rules guiding the use of the road while advising passengers and other road users to be responsible for their safety and stop distracted driving.
“I wish all citizens of Gombe a crash free Eid-el Kabir celebration as we are assured to serve them professionally,” he said.
