Tinubu Honours June 12 Heroes, Renames Kaduna Institute After Gen. Yar’Adua
President Bola Tinubu has announced the revitalisation and renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna in honour of the late Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua as part of activities marking Democracy Day.
Speaking in his June 12 address to the nation on Friday, Tinubu described Yar’Adua as one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s democratic evolution and praised his vision of national partnership.
According to the president, the Federal Government has approved the upgrade and renaming of the completed institution to General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership,” Tinubu said.
The president also announced national honours for several pro-democracy activists, journalists, public figures and military officers recognised for their contributions and sacrifices during the June 12 struggle.
Those honoured include Ayoka Lawani, Tunde Fagbenle, Oladele Alake, Olatunji Bello, Louis Odion, Segun Babatope, Sam Omatseye, Ademola Osinubi, Bola Bolawole, Lade Bonuola, Femi Kusa, Debo Adeniran and Ayo Opadokun.
Others named are Ralph Obiora, Ose Osayande, Osa Director, Sylvester Odion-Akhaine, Arthur Nwankwo (posthumous), Osagie Obayuwana, Joe Okei-Odumakin, Titus Mann, Joe Igbokwe, Richard Akinnola and Ben Charles-Obi (posthumous).
Also recognised were George Mbah, Niran Malaolu, retired Gen. Ishola Williams, Femi Aborisade, Jenkins Alumona, Gbemiga Ogunleye, Muyiwa Adekeye, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju and Ike Okonta.
Tinubu further honoured military officers he described as “soldier-democrats” for supporting Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
