President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated a 600-metre underpass and a 3.7-kilometre dualised township road network in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, marking another milestone in the state’s urban renewal drive.

The projects, executed by the Nasarawa State Government, are designed to improve traffic flow, enhance connectivity and boost economic activities within the area.

Represented at the event by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu said the infrastructure projects would help address long-standing traffic challenges and accelerate development.

According to the president, residents and regular road users in Akwanga would recognise the significant changes taking place in the town.

“Anybody who has seen this road before now understands how congested it used to be. Delays, especially during festive periods, often meant spending hours in traffic.

“The speed and scale of work delivered within a short period are commendable,” Tinubu said.

He also praised ongoing infrastructure development across Nasarawa, noting visible progress in areas such as Karu.

“You are doing a great job in expanding road infrastructure and improving living conditions for the people of the state,” he added.

Tinubu said the projects align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises investment in critical infrastructure nationwide.

He described the development as part of broader efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport network and strengthen the area’s role as a strategic transit corridor.

Speaking earlier, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule appreciated the president for commissioning the projects and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure delivery.

Sule stated that the projects, alongside several others across the state, were completed without obtaining loans from financial institutions.

He attributed the state’s improved financial capacity to Federal Government reforms, including foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal and adjustments to Value Added Tax (VAT), which he said had increased state allocations.

According to the governor, Nasarawa’s monthly federal allocation rose from between N3.5 billion and N4 billion in 2019 to between N13 billion and N15 billion currently.

He pledged that the administration would sustain development efforts until the end of its tenure in 2027.

The governor also assured Tinubu of continued support from the state and expressed confidence that residents would acknowledge ongoing development efforts in future elections.

During the visit, Tinubu also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed 700-kilometre Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway.
