The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has reassured customers, contributors and other stakeholders that its operations remain fully functional despite a fire incident that affected part of its headquarters over the weekend.

The bank said the fire, which broke out on the second floor of its head office on the night of Saturday, August 1, was swiftly contained before it could spread to other sections of the building.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Group Head, Corporate Communications, Joe Abuku, the bank disclosed that the incident caused damage to office furniture, equipment and appliances within the affected section.

“The fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building.

“While there have been some damages to office furniture, equipment and appliances in the affected areas, we are grateful to report that official documents that were affected are securely backed up electronically, with cloud storage.

“This is thanks to technology. Investigations and evaluations to establish the cause of the fire are still ongoing.”

Abuku said the bank had activated measures to ensure that its services remain uninterrupted despite the incident, assuring customers that banking operations were continuing as normal.

“The office remains open for normal business, and customers can continue to access the bank’s services as usual,” he said.

He also commended the swift response of the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, members of staff and other stakeholders, whose coordinated efforts helped contain the fire and minimise further damage to the building.

Assuring the public of continued transparency, Abuku said the bank would provide updates as investigations into the cause of the fire progress.

”We will continue to keep the public informed as investigations progress and more details become available,” Abuku assured.
