The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have strengthened their partnership to improve road safety, facilitate legitimate trade and enhance security along major transportation routes in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

The collaboration is also aimed at improving operational efficiency and ensuring the smooth movement of goods through effective inter-agency cooperation.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Cross River/Calabar Free Trade Zone/Akwa Ibom Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nkeiruka Nwala, disclosed this on Monday during a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the FRSC Cross River Sector Command.

Nwala stressed the strategic importance of road transportation to Customs operations, particularly in the movement of goods and the execution of enforcement activities.

She noted that stronger cooperation and effective communication between both agencies would contribute significantly to safer roads, improved operational efficiency and seamless legitimate commerce.

According to her, the visit was designed to strengthen existing institutional relationships, improve communication channels and identify areas of mutual interest in the discharge of their respective statutory responsibilities.

She explained that closer collaboration would also enhance the capacity of both agencies to tackle operational challenges and promote a secure, safe and efficient transportation system.

The Customs Area Controller reaffirmed her command’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation, describing it as consistent with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ strategic framework of Collaboration, Consolidation and Innovation.

“We remain committed to working with the FRSC and other relevant agencies to strengthen institutional partnerships and promote effective service delivery,” she said.

In his response, the FRSC Cross River Sector Commander, Corps Commander Innocent Etuk, commended Nwala for the visit and expressed the command’s readiness to sustain mutually beneficial cooperation with the Customs Service.

Etuk said the sector remained open to partnerships and initiatives capable of promoting meaningful development and advancing the interests of the people and society at large.

The renewed engagement underscores the importance of inter-agency synergy in addressing transportation and security challenges, facilitating legitimate economic activities and strengthening public safety across the two states.
