Mohbad, Son Liam Undergo Court-Supervised DNA Sample Collection
DNA samples have been collected from the remains of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his son, Liam, as efforts to resolve the lingering paternity controversy surrounding the child advance.
The sample collection exercise was conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Lagos, under the supervision of the court.
The development followed an application by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, seeking a court-approved DNA test to establish whether Liam is the biological son of the late singer. The court approved the application and appointed a welfare officer to oversee the exercise.
Samples were initially collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, also known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), in Yaba, Lagos.
The collected samples were subsequently transported under heavy security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where additional samples were obtained from Liam for forensic examination.
The exercise reportedly took place under strict judicial supervision and heightened security arrangements amid concerns about possible public disturbances.
Mohbad’s mother, Abosede; his younger brother, Adura; and his widow, Omowunmi, were present during the proceedings. The identification of the singer’s remains reportedly triggered emotional moments among family members.
The paternity dispute has remained a subject of public debate since Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023.
The late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, has repeatedly questioned Liam’s paternity and called for a DNA test to determine whether the child was fathered by his son.
With samples now collected from both Mohbad and Liam, attention has shifted to the forensic analysis and the eventual release of the results.
The outcome of the DNA examination is expected to provide scientific evidence that could help resolve the prolonged dispute.
However, the date for the release of the results has not been announced.
