Motorists Demand Lower Petrol Prices After Dangote Refinery’s N35 Cut

Motorists in Abuja have called on petroleum marketers to reduce petrol pump prices following the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s N35 per litre reduction in its gantry price.

The motorists expressed concern that the latest price adjustment by the refinery had yet to translate into significant reductions at filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The refinery recently reduced its petrol gantry price from N1,250 to N1,215 per litre, raising expectations of relief for consumers grappling with high fuel costs.

However, checks conducted by journalists in Abuja on Sunday, November 8, showed that petrol prices remained between N1,385 and N1,420 per litre at several retail outlets.

At AY Shafa, petrol sold for N1,399 per litre, while Mabso retail outlet dispensed the product at N1,385 per litre. Empire Energy sold at N1,420 per litre, while Total and Rainoil outlets sold petrol at N1,410 per litre.

Some motorists said they expected the reduction in the refinery’s wholesale price to reflect at the pump, particularly amid rising transportation costs and increasing household expenses.

Bala Usman, a resident of Mabuchi, urged marketers to pass the price reduction on to consumers, noting that the high cost of petrol continued to place pressure on households and businesses.

Similarly, Adelaja Scott, a resident of Durumi, called for a significant reduction in pump prices, lamenting the rising cost of transportation and other essential expenses.

Another motorist, Ishiaku Baba, said cheaper petrol would provide relief to road users and help reduce transportation costs, particularly for commercial operators who depend heavily on fuel.

Abubakar Waziri, a resident of Lokogoma, also urged marketers to ensure that savings from lower procurement and operating costs were reflected in retail prices.

He called on relevant stakeholders to ensure that consumers benefited from favourable developments in the petroleum market.
