China Reaffirms Strong Support for Lebanon’s Sovereignty and Security – Chinese Foreign Minister

China has reiterated its unwavering support for Lebanon in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity, as stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in New York.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted China’s firm stance on Lebanon’s ongoing challenges and the broader situation in the Middle East. He emphasized that China, having a long-standing friendship with Lebanon, is closely monitoring recent developments in the region.

Referring to the recent explosions of communication devices across Lebanon, Wang firmly condemned indiscriminate attacks on civilians, stating that such acts are unacceptable. He added that resorting to force does not equate to righteousness and that violence is not a solution to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

China’s foreign minister further stressed the country’s opposition to any actions that violate basic international norms and relations. “The current situation is a manifestation of the spillover effect of the conflicts in Gaza,” Wang noted, calling for a “permanent ceasefire and comprehensive withdrawal of troops,” along with the effective implementation of “the two-state solution.”

Wang also urged Lebanese authorities to take effective measures to protect Chinese citizens residing in Lebanon, ensuring their safety amid the ongoing tensions.

In response, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib expressed gratitude to China for its support, particularly at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms. He emphasized that for a small country like Lebanon, maintaining sovereignty and independence under the framework of the United Nations is crucial.

The meeting underscored the mutual respect and cooperation between China and Lebanon, with both countries expressing hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflicts in the Middle East.
