Former Morocco, Marseille Midfielder Abdelaziz Barrada Dies at 35 After Heart Attack

Abdelaziz Barrada, former Moroccan international and Marseille midfielder, has tragically passed away at the age of 35 after reportedly suffering a sudden heart attack in France.

Barrada, who retired from professional football in 2021, had an impressive career with clubs including Getafe, Marseille, and Al-Nasr. News of his passing has deeply saddened the football community. Olympique de Marseille paid tribute on social media, stating, “Rest in peace, Abdelaziz. Olympique de Marseille is saddened to learn of the passing of its former player and Moroccan international, Abdelaziz Barrada.” The club recalled Barrada’s arrival in 2014, highlighting his dedication over two seasons in their colors.

Getafe CF also expressed their sorrow, saying, “The Getafe CF family is shocked by the death of former player Abdel Barrada,” acknowledging his 66 matches and four goals during his time with the club in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons.

Internationally, Barrada captained Morocco’s squad at the 2012 London Olympics and earned 26 caps, scoring four goals for his country between 2012 and 2015.
