Trump Reportedly Taps Marco Rubio as Likely Pick for Secretary of State

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to name Florida Senator Marco Rubio as his Secretary of State, according to sources cited by The New York Times.

Although the decision may still change, three insiders close to Trump’s transition team suggest Rubio is the preferred choice.

While neither Rubio’s nor Trump’s team has confirmed the report, Rubio’s stance on key international issues aligns closely with Trump’s recent policies. Known for his hardline positions on Cuba, Iran, and China, Rubio has also supported Trump’s call for a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, calling it a “stalemate” that “needs to be brought to a conclusion.”

Rubio has consistently advocated for strong U.S.-Israel ties, recently urging action against perceived “anti-Israel propaganda” on social media and criticizing pro-Palestinian protests. He was vocal against calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, calling Hamas a “vicious” group and supporting Israel’s defense measures following October’s missile attack by Iran. Additionally, Rubio has championed efforts to ban TikTok, citing national security concerns.

This appointment would position Rubio as a central figure in shaping Trump’s foreign policy agenda, if confirmed.
