At least six people were killed and numerous others injured following a Russian missile strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, acting mayor Artem Kobzar confirmed late Sunday.
In a video shared on Telegram, Kobzar stood in front of a heavily damaged multi-story residential building, highlighting the destruction caused by the attack. Rescue teams continued to search through the rubble in the dark, hoping to locate survivors and recover victims.
The assault on Sumy came amid one of the most intense Russian air raids on Ukraine since the conflict began. Overnight strikes targeted multiple sites across the country, primarily focusing on energy infrastructure, and included drones, rockets, and cruise missiles.
Authorities have yet to provide the total number of casualties from the widespread attacks.
