Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has directed security agencies to intensify efforts in making the state hostile to criminal elements, particularly cultists.
The governor issued the directive during an inaugural security meeting held on Monday night in Benin City. According to a statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s commitment to prioritizing security and ensuring the safety of all residents.
“We will not tolerate the alarming rate of cult-related violence in Edo State. My administration places security above all and will take decisive steps to address this menace,” Okpebholo said.
He urged security agencies to work collaboratively to curb cult-related killings, particularly in the state capital. “We must eliminate these criminals from their hideouts and restore peace and security to our state,” he added.
The reports gathered that Edo State has recently witnessed a surge in cult clashes, leading to several fatalities, particularly in Benin City. Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his resolve to protect lives and create a safe environment for all residents.
