A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 27-year-old tiler, Qudus Kazeem, at the Ikoyi Correctional Center for allegedly raping his employer’s wife.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Sanusi Adagun, remanded the defendant after he was arraigned on a four-count charge, which includes unlawful sexual intercourse, threat to life, obtaining money under false pretenses, and stealing.
Magistrate Adagun instructed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and submit it to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned until Dec. 18 for further mention.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Reuben Solomon, the alleged crimes occurred in December 2022 at No. 8/10, Kola John Street, off Feyintola Giwa Street, Surulere, Lagos.
Solomon explained that Kazeem, who was hired to install tiles at the residence of Mr. Damilare Gbadamosi, allegedly abandoned his task and forced himself on Gbadamosi’s wife.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant threatened to destroy the victim’s marriage if she refused to send him money or engage in sexual relations with him.
The offences, Solomon noted, violate Sections 56(1)(a), 260, 280, and 314(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
