The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced plans to refund over N95 million to 1,571 pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj exercise.
The Director-General of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Labbo, revealed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.
Labbo explained that the refund was due to services that were not rendered to the pilgrims while in Saudi Arabia. Each eligible pilgrim is set to receive N61,080 directly into their bank accounts.
“This refund is for the 2023 Hajj exercise, and the total amount to be refunded is N95,156,680 for 1,571 pilgrims. When you divide the total sum by the number of pilgrims, it amounts to N61,080 for each individual,” Labbo stated.
He added that the board has directed zonal officers to collect bank account details from the beneficiaries in their respective areas to facilitate the disbursement.
“We are in the process of gathering the account details, and as soon as this is completed, all 1,571 pilgrims from Jigawa will receive their refunds,” he assured.
The initiative is part of the board’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in handling Hajj operations.
