The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the successful export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa. This milestone highlights the refinery’s growing impact on the global energy market.
Dr. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, revealed the development during a visit by a delegation from the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Ambassador-designate Suzuki Hideo. Dr. Edwin noted that, alongside petrol, the refinery has been exporting diesel globally and jet fuel to European markets.
“Our products are already making their mark internationally,” he said, adding that the refinery leverages Africa’s abundant crude oil resources to produce refined products locally, fostering industrial development, job creation, and economic growth.
Dr. Edwin emphasized the refinery’s uniqueness as the world’s largest single-train refinery complex, designed, built, and operated by Nigerians. Dangote Industries also served as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, underscoring Nigeria’s growing technological capabilities.
Highlighting the facility’s potential, he stated, “The Dangote Petrochemical project will significantly boost downstream investments, create substantial value, generate employment, increase tax revenues, reduce foreign exchange outflows, and contribute to Nigeria’s GDP.”
The Japanese delegation, which toured the refinery, praised its state-of-the-art facilities. Ambassador-designate Hideo described the refinery as a “masterpiece showcasing Nigeria’s technological advancements.” Takashi Oku, Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), lauded the refinery as a landmark project underscoring Nigeria’s role as the gateway to Africa.
Masahiro Tsuno, Managing Director of Itochu Nigeria Limited, called the refinery “a miracle and one of the wonders of the world,” adding that his company seeks collaborations in sectors like polypropylene and petroleum products.
The delegation’s visit underscores global recognition of the Dangote Refinery’s achievements and its pivotal role in elevating Nigeria’s standing in the international energy market.
