0 1

Spotify, the global music streaming platform, has introduced its ‘Detty December’ hub to celebrate the vibrant festive traditions of West and South Africa. The hub features curated playlists that showcase the biggest hits and emerging sounds of the season.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music in Sub-Saharan Africa, announced the launch in a statement on Monday, describing the hub as a one-stop destination for festive soundtracks.

“Detty December is a special time for our users in West Africa, while ‘ke Dezemba’ embodies the spirit of celebration in South Africa. With our curated playlists, we’re thrilled to provide the perfect soundtrack for festive moments, from Afrobeats and Amapiano anthems to relaxing vibes for recovery days,” Okumu said.

She noted that the hub pays homage to Africa’s dynamic festive culture, reflecting Lagos’ rooftop lounges, Accra’s beachside festivals, and South Africa’s township grooves.

Spotify has also launched a special playlist, ‘Songs of Detty December,’ curated by Spotify Africa’s editors to spotlight tracks expected to dominate this year’s celebrations. The hub will feature diverse playlists such as DJ Skelm’s Afro Tech sounds and a South African Summer playlist taken over by Amapiano star Kamo_ww.

As part of the festivities, Spotify is supporting Jerk x Jollof, a popular cultural event debuting in Africa through its Frequency program. The event, held at The Ostrich in Cape Town, will bring together DJs and artists such as TxC, DBN Gogo, Spinall, Sarz, and Odeal, blending West and South African cultures.

“We are committed to supporting African music and culture. Music has the power to unite people, and we’re proud to be part of the Detty December celebrations,” Okumu added.

The ‘Detty December’ hub is now live on Spotify, offering music enthusiasts the ultimate festive experience.
