The National Sports Commission (NSC) has launched the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), aimed at transforming the nation’s sports sector into a thriving driver of socio-economic growth.

The NSC Chairman, Malam Shehu Dikko, announced the initiative on Thursday in Abuja, stating that RHINSE will reset Nigeria’s sports ecosystem from being competition-focused to a development-driven and value-adding industry.

The initiative is built on the Reset, Refocus, and Relaunch (RRR) framework, with a roadmap emphasizing grassroots development, school sports, and professional academy programs. It also seeks to foster private sector participation and investment while ensuring sustainable participation in international competitions.

“The RHINSE initiative is not just about infrastructure investment but redefining sports as a national asset deserving of special support, legal frameworks, and concessions to drive growth,” Dikko said.

He added that the Federal Government has earmarked an unprecedented capital allocation of over ₦78 billion for sports in the 2025 budget. This funding will support infrastructure development, the establishment of an anti-doping laboratory, and other projects to elevate the sports industry.

Position sports as a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economy, targeting at least 3% of GDP.

Create and sustain 3 million jobs across the sports value chain.

Dominate the global sports talent export market to generate foreign exchange for reinvestment.

Promote grassroots development and private sector collaboration.

Establish Nigeria as a hub for hosting international tournaments.

The NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, described RHINSE as a “game-changer,” emphasizing its potential to attract global recognition, investment, and opportunities for Nigerian youth.

“This deliberate and focused strategy will lay a solid foundation for Nigeria’s sports development, unlocking its potential to thrive both locally and internationally,” Olopade said.

The initiative is expected to redefine Nigeria’s sports landscape, fostering unity, cultural promotion, and economic empowerment across communities nationwide.
