The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has postponed the announcement of nominations for the upcoming Oscars to January 19, citing the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
In a letter reported by CBS News, the Academy expressed condolences to those affected by the fires, noting that many members and industry colleagues reside in the impacted areas.
Consequently, the voting period for selecting nominees has been extended by two days, now concluding on January 14.
The 2025 Oscars ceremony remains scheduled for March 2.
Since Tuesday, multiple wildfires have erupted in and around Los Angeles, resulting in at least five fatalities and prompting tens of thousands to evacuate.
President Joe Biden has authorized federal funding for those affected and canceled a planned trip to Italy to focus on response efforts.
