President Joe Biden will address the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday, marking his farewell speech just days before President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, the White House announced Friday.
Scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time (0100 GMT Thursday), the address will be Biden’s first from the Oval Office since his announcement to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
According to a senior administration official, the president’s remarks will reflect on his administration’s achievements, particularly in foreign policy and the restoration of America’s global standing.
“When President Biden entered office, our alliances were deeply strained, we were losing ground in our competition with China, U.S. troops were still engaged in America’s longest war, our adversaries were gaining strength, and the world faced a devastating global pandemic,” the official said.
The official highlighted how Biden’s leadership addressed these challenges, emphasizing that the nation is now in a stronger position. “Our alliances and partnerships are at their peak, thanks to the efforts of this administration,” they added.
In addition to the farewell address, Biden is slated to speak at the State Department on his foreign policy legacy and the progress made in reinforcing America’s role on the global stage.
