U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order mandating the declassification of files related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
The order directs the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to devise a plan within 15 days for the “full and complete release” of all records tied to the JFK assassination.
Additionally, the DNI must immediately review records concerning the assassinations of RFK and MLK and present a plan for their release within 45 days.
Speaking at the Oval Office after signing the order, Trump emphasized the importance of transparency. “This is a big one. People have been waiting for decades, and now, the truth will finally come to light,” he stated.
The executive order describes the continued withholding of JFK assassination records as “long overdue” and against the public interest. Although no congressional mandate exists for the RFK and MLK records, Trump asserted that their release is equally vital for public trust and historical clarity.
This move reflects a significant push toward resolving decades-old mysteries surrounding the high-profile assassinations and providing closure for the American people and the victims’ families.
