Bayelsa doctor dies after delivering triplets, sparking grief in medical community
A medical doctor, Ere Siana Sintei Ogbachi, has died from complications shortly after giving birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH) in Okolobiri, Bayelsa State.
Ogbachi, who worked as a registrar at NDUTH, reportedly showed signs of recovery following the successful delivery. However, her condition suddenly worsened, prompting her transfer to the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa for advanced treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her, she was pronounced dead in the early hours of April 14, 2026.
In a statement, the family described her death as devastating, noting that doctors made sustained attempts to save her life as her condition deteriorated. Continuous monitoring reportedly showed a steady decline in her vital signs before she passed away.
Ogbachi was remembered as a dedicated healthcare professional, as well as a wife and mother to her newborn triplets. She was also a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and an alumna of Niger Delta University.
Her passing has sparked widespread mourning among colleagues and within the medical community, with many describing the loss as tragic. The family expressed appreciation for the support and condolences received from well-wishers and associates.
