President Joe Biden’s national security council spokesman, John Kirby, stated on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to avoid escalating the conflict against Hamas and Hezbollah into a broader regional war, despite multiple rounds of Israeli bombings in Lebanon.
Kirby also downplayed reports of strained ties between Washington and Jerusalem following a recent airstrike that killed senior Hezbollah commander Hassan Nasrallah, which allegedly frustrated President Biden.
While acknowledging differing views between the U.S. and Israel, Kirby emphasized their shared goal of ensuring Israel’s security and preventing further conflict in the Middle East.
He reiterated the “ironclad” U.S. support for Israel and urged restraint from Iran amid rising tensions.
