A 29-year-old student of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Donatus Ndubuisi, was killed by suspected herdsmen while assisting his mother on their farm in Amofia Umuhu Eha-Amufu, Enugu State.

Ndubuisi, the only child of a widowed mother, was shot dead on February 28, 2025, and laid to rest on March 7. His tragic death has sparked outrage, with thousands of women protesting against the persistent attacks in the community.

According to sources, Ndubuisi had traveled from Enugu, where he was studying and working as a solar energy technician, to visit his mother. Upon learning that she had gone to harvest cassava, he proceeded to the farm to help. However, they were ambushed by armed attackers, who shot him in the back as he tried to flee.

A community leader, Samuel Ede, described the incident as part of ongoing violence in Eha-Amufu, which has seen frequent attacks since 2021. He revealed that Ndubuisi’s father was also reportedly killed by herdsmen in the same community.

The killing led to a large protest in Eha-Amufu on Thursday, where women from seven autonomous communities took to the streets, condemning the murder and calling for urgent government intervention.
