Ex-Borno Cooperatives Chief Registrar, Family Die in Maiduguri House Fire

Former Chief Registrar of the Borno State Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar, his wife, and their two daughters tragically lost their lives in a fire at their residence on Damboa Road, Maiduguri, Borno State. The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, August 18, 2024.

A family source confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing that the fire claimed the lives of the entire household. A close friend of the deceased shared the devastating news on Facebook, describing Abubakar as a “very humble” and “down-to-earth” individual. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge.

“The deceased retired as Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and later worked with a private borehole drilling company,” the friend said.

He recalled a recent conversation with Abubakar, where they discussed various contemporary issues, and he had promised to visit him in his new home in Maiduguri. “I never imagined it would be the last time I’d hear his voice. Allahu Akbar. A very humble and down-to-earth personality has gone, along with cherished members of his immediate family. They have since been buried in Maiduguri today. May Allah (swt) admit them into Aljannah Firdausih,” he added.
