Wildlife Conservation in Chad: Rare Seba Python Reintroduced to National Park

The Chadian authorities have successfully released a Seba python into a waterway within the Zah Soo National Park as part of efforts to protect wildlife and preserve the country’s natural ecosystem.

Chad’s Minister of the Environment, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, announced the development on Sept. 17, 2026, in a statement published on his Facebook page.

The minister said the python was successfully released into a waterway in the national park, although he did not provide further details on where the reptile was rescued from or the circumstances that led to its relocation.

The Seba python, also known as the African rock python, is one of Africa’s largest snake species and is associated with wetlands, grasslands and other suitable habitats.

The release highlights ongoing efforts by environmental authorities to return wildlife to appropriate natural habitats and support the conservation of biodiversity.

Zah Soo National Park is among the protected areas where wildlife conservation efforts are being pursued as authorities seek to safeguard natural habitats and maintain ecological balance.
