Falconets Defeat Korea Republic 1-0 to Boost World Cup Hopes

Nigeria’s under-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, edged out Korea Republic 1-0 in a hard-fought Group D encounter at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on Monday.

Flourish Sabastine’s late goal secured all three points for the Falconets at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota. The victory places Nigeria in a strong position to advance to the Round of 16 at the 11th edition of the tournament.

The Koreans had early chances, with a close attempt in the 15th minute thwarted by Nigeria’s Shukurat Oladipo. In the second half, Sabastine and Amina Bello had shots blocked, while substitute Chiamaka Okwuchukwu nearly extended Nigeria’s lead.

This victory mirrors Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Korea Republic during the group stage of the 2022 edition in Costa Rica. The Falconets will now face three-time champions Germany in their next group match on Wednesday.
