The Federal Government has approved free train services for Nigerians nationwide during the festive season, running from Dec. 20, 2024, to Jan. 5, 2025.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the burden of high transportation costs on vulnerable citizens.
“Similar measures were taken last Christmas and during the Sallah period. Once again, Mr. President has approved free transport services nationwide for the festive season,” Idris stated.
In addition to the transport announcement, the FEC approved a proposal to rename the University of Abuja to honor former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
“The University of Abuja will now be known as Yakubu Gowon University. However, this decision requires legislative approval by the National Assembly to effect the change,” Idris explained.
The Council also commended President Tinubu for his leadership over the past 18 months and reaffirmed its support for his programs. FEC is set to go on recess from Dec. 18, 2024, to Jan. 6, 2025.
