FG Orders Immediate Reopening of Lagos Independence Bridge to Ease Traffic
The Federal Government has directed the immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge in Lagos to alleviate severe traffic congestion caused by its recent closure for maintenance.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, issued the directive on Wednesday after gridlock extended from Lekki through Victoria Island to Falomo Bridge, causing long delays for commuters.
The bridge was initially closed for scheduled rehabilitation, but the commencement of repairs on Tuesday led to widespread traffic disruptions, with Lagos residents spending hours on the road.
Confirming the development, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for public understanding. She assured motorists that palliative measures would be implemented on the reopened bridge to enhance its usability.
