FG Unveils FCC Digital Platform to Boost Transparency, Inclusiveness
The Federal Government on Tuesday launched a new digital platform for the Federal Character Commission (FCC), marking a significant step toward enhancing transparency, accountability and inclusive governance in Nigeria.
Unveiling the website in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, described the initiative as a strategic milestone in the commission’s evolution and the nation’s pursuit of equity and good governance.
Akume reaffirmed the constitutional role of the FCC in ensuring fair representation across all segments of the federation, noting that the principle of federal character goes beyond legal compliance.
He said it also serves as a moral imperative essential for nation-building, unity and national stability.
”In a country as diverse as Nigeria, the Federal Character Commission represents a cornerstone for trust in governance because it reassures every citizen that the Nigerian state belongs to all and serves all.
”The work of the commission must continue to evolve to reflect the demands of our time, driven by technology, data and citizens’ expectations for openness and transparency,” he said.
The SGF emphasized that the newly launched website should function as more than just an online presence, but as a dynamic tool for governance, service delivery and accountability.
He explained that the platform is expected to provide real-time access to data, guidelines, certifications and public inquiries, among other official activities of the commission.
Akume further urged the FCC to leverage technology in publishing compliance data, institutional reports and federal character indices in a transparent and verifiable manner.
He also called for data-driven decision-making, innovation in regulatory oversight, stronger citizen engagement and continuous performance evaluation.
Commending the leadership of the commission, Akume described the initiative as a crucial step toward strengthening public trust in government institutions.
In her remarks, the wife of the president, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Mrs Laila Jibrin, said the launch signified a major advancement in the commission’s institutional development and national cohesion.
She praised the Executive Chairman of the FCC, Mrs Hulayat Omidiran, alongside the management and staff, for embracing innovation and digital transformation.
According to her, the platform will enhance access to information, streamline administrative processes and provide a transparent channel for citizen engagement.
She added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises innovation, digital transformation and inclusive governance.
”The true value of this website lies not merely in its existence but in its effective utilisation. It must remain active, regularly updated and user-friendly,” she said.
Earlier, Omidiran described the website as a decisive step toward modernising the commission’s communication and service delivery systems.
She explained that the platform would offer timely access to policy guidelines, recruitment processes, compliance requirements and official announcements, while also improving interaction between the commission, citizens and key stakeholders.
Omidiran said the initiative underscores the FCC’s commitment to institutional reform, digital inclusion and service excellence.
She added that it marks the beginning of a more innovative and responsive phase in the commission’s operations.
”The new official website stands as a strategic innovation designed to strengthen our institutional presence in the digital space.
”It provides a unified, accessible, and user-friendly platform through which the public can engage with the commission more effectively,” she said.
Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Mr Idris Wase, commended the FCC leadership for advancing institutional reforms through digital innovation.
”The House of Representatives recognises this initiative as a critical step toward strengthening transparency and accountability in public service.
”Digital platforms such as this will not only enhance oversight and compliance but also promote equitable access to opportunities which lies at the heart of the Federal Character principle.
”We commend the leadership of the commission for aligning its operations with global best practices and for demonstrating that governance can be both inclusive and technology-driven,” he said.
