A 36-year-old Florida woman has died after reportedly losing her balance and falling from a mountain overlook while attempting to take a photograph during a family hike in Italy.

The woman, identified as Michelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva, was hiking with her family in the Dolomites near Val di Fassa in the Trentino region last weekend when the incident occurred, according to Italian media reports cited by TMZ.

Local reports estimated that she fell as far as 980 feet, although the exact distance has not been confirmed.

The family was reportedly heading towards a cable car that would take them to a restaurant farther up the mountain when the incident happened.

Rubio Leiva graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012. She worked as a digital nomad and had reportedly lived in Rome the previous year.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal fall have been reported by local media, with the exact details of the incident yet to be fully established.
