Forum demands direct primaries for House of Reps in Adamawa
Forum of House of Representatives Aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa has demanded direct primary elections to enable the party to present popular and credible candidates for the 2027 elections.
Vrati Nzonzo, the spokesperson of the Forum made the call while briefing newsmen shortly after their meeting in Yola on Friday.
He said that the candidate produced through direct primaries would make the party victorious.
The Forum called on the party to conduct free, fair, and credible primaries across all 226 wards of the state since consensus has failed across the eight federal constituencies in the state.
“The Forum is aware of claims by some party executives of the arrival of a “Presidential List” of favored candidates for the eight constituencies in the State who are either unpopular or not sellable.
“Such imposition, if true, would undermine the party’s chances of victory, outrightly condemned by the Forum and would hitherto affect the chances of the party’s victory in the general election.
“In light of the above, the Forum wishes to draw the attention of the leader of the party in the state, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, the National Security Adviser.
“And the party leadership to exercise caution and treat the Primary Election processes in accordance with the extant laws of the Party”, said.
According to the forum, the actions that subvert due process threaten the party’s prospects and electoral success in view of the outcome of the 2019 and 2023 elections in the State.
They also called on their teeming supporters to remain calm and law abiding as the Party will certainly address their concerns with immediate effect
