How Troops Foil Bandit Attack on Plateau Communities, Leaving One Dead
Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have foiled an attack by suspected armed bandits on Nyerwai and Rayidi communities in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after troops deployed in Dorowa Babuje responded to reports of sporadic gunshots in the two communities.
A military source said troops arrived at the scene and found the body of a 37-year-old man identified as Danya Nuhu.
The troops also rescued 28-year-old Abednego Davou, who had sustained gunshot wounds during the attack. Three cattle were also found injured from gunfire.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the attackers, suspected to be armed militias, fled into the surrounding area after sighting the advancing troops.
Davou was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, where he is receiving medical treatment, while troops continue efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The military has also intensified patrols across the OPEP Joint Operations Area, particularly around vulnerable communities, schools, places of worship and other critical infrastructure, to prevent further attacks and strengthen security in the area.
