Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has concluded a visit to the United Kingdom, during which he engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other senior officials. The meetings underscored the strengthening ties between the two nations, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of India-UK relations.

A focal point of the visit was the relaunch of negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Talks had previously been postponed due to elections in both countries but were officially resumed on January 14, 2025. The renewed discussions aim to bolster investment opportunities across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, financial services, and professional services.

Recent data indicates a significant uptick in economic engagement between the UK and India. Over the past nine months, the value of payments received by UK clients from India surged by 121%, while payments made by UK clients to India increased by 32%. This growth reflects deepening business ties and mutual economic interests.

Both nations are committed to advancing negotiations to finalize the FTA, aiming to further enhance bilateral trade and investment, thereby strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the UK.
