Innoson Delivers First Batch of CNG Buses to Federal Government

2 19

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd (IVM) has successfully delivered the first 25% of the 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses ordered by the federal government as part of the Presidential CNG Initiative aimed at mitigating the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.

The delivery, made just two weeks after the government placed the formal order, signifies a step forward in the plan to provide alternative transportation solutions for citizens. IVM Chairman/CEO Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, who recently visited President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, confirmed that another 25% of the CNG buses would be manufactured and delivered by the end of next month.

Speaking at the Nnewi factory before flagging off the 100-seater buses’ journey to Abuja, Chief Chukwuma expressed pride in commencing delivery promptly after receiving the government’s order. He emphasized that producing the buses was a “patriotic duty” and a commitment to supporting local manufacturing rather than just fulfilling a business contract.

“We have a partnership with the Federal Government to produce CNG buses for mass transportation,” Chukwuma stated. “President Tinubu and his team recognized our capacity, and it’s commendable that the government is championing the ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ vision by contracting us for this project.”

He reiterated that Nigeria has the capability to manufacture CNG vehicles, eliminating the need to source such products externally, and emphasized that Innoson is dedicated to fulfilling its role in the ongoing national effort to enhance mass transportation and promote locally manufactured goods.
