Iran, Mexico Advocate for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Araghchi and Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena have voiced their countries’ strong support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. During a phone call, both diplomats stressed the importance of ending the ongoing violence in the Palestinian coastal enclave.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry released a statement highlighting the commitment of both nations to continuing bilateral political talks and consultations. Barcena emphasized Mexico’s backing for a truce, insisting that the bloodshed must stop without delay.

Araghchi, in his remarks, condemned Israel’s ongoing actions against Palestinians, urging an end to what he described as “crimes.” He further expressed Iran’s readiness to support any ceasefire endorsed by the Palestinian people and resistance groups.

The conflict escalated following Israel’s large-scale offensive against Hamas, which came in response to a deadly Hamas attack on Israeli civilians along the border on Oct. 7, 2023. According to Gaza-based health authorities, the Palestinian death toll has reached 41,020 as Israeli airstrikes continue.
