Kuwait Introduces Strict Penalties for Phone Use While Driving

0 23

Kuwait has announced tougher penalties for motorists caught using mobile phones while driving, as part of efforts to reduce road accidents and promote safer driving habits.

Starting April 22, offenders will face a fine of 75 Kuwaiti dinars (Dh895 or $245), while repeat or serious violations could lead to court-imposed penalties of up to three months in jail, fines ranging from 150 to 300 dinars, or both.

Authorities emphasized that distracted driving is a leading cause of collisions globally, with mobile phone use significantly increasing accident risks.

“These penalties aim to deter reckless behavior and ensure drivers stay focused on the road,” a General Traffic Department official stated.

Motorists are urged to use hands-free devices or stop safely before checking their phones. Officials also advised staying informed about traffic regulations through government announcements.
