Lightning Strike Kills 32 Cows During Rainstorm in Ogun Community

At least 32 cows were struck dead by thunder and lightning during a heavy rainstorm on Saturday in the Osara, Obantoko area of Odeda Local Government, Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred around noon, affected cattle owned by members of both the Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba communities in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Baale of Osara, Chief Wasiu Afolabi, said he was alerted by Fulani herders around 2 p.m. and promptly reported the matter to the Aregbe Police Division and the Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Dr. Afolashade Adeyemo.

“We have scheduled a meeting with the Fulani community to decide the next steps and ensure this unfortunate event does not disrupt the peace of the community,” Afolabi stated.

Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, also confirmed the tragedy, saying the command was notified at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“The DPO of Aregbe Division led a team to the scene. A total of 32 cows were found dead following a thunder and lightning strike during a heavy downpour,” Ogunlowo said.

The rare weather-related incident has drawn widespread attention, with community leaders emphasizing the need for calm and cooperation to maintain harmony among residents.
