Maiduguri Flood: NGO seeks immediate int’l support for victims

A Non-governmental Organisation, Network of Civil Society (GONET) has called for immediate international support to provide relief to the victims of Maiduguri flood disaster.

The Chairman of GONET, Mr Ibrahim Yusuf 3000, made the appeal in a press statement issued to journalists in Gombe.
Yusuf said the impact of the flood had made it imperative for international organisations to come in and support victims.

“In light of this dire situation, GONET is calling for immediate international support to provide relief to the victims of this disaster.

“We appeal to global humanitarian agencies, international organisations, and donor partners to provide urgent assistance to the affected families.

“Essential items such as food, clean water, medicine, clothing, and temporary shelters are desperately needed to address the immediate needs of those displaced.

“We call on major humanitarian organisations such as the United Nations, the International Red Cross, and other global relief agencies to prioritize aid to Maiduguri and surrounding areas.

“The provision of immediate assistance will help mitigate the impact of the floods and support the Borno State government in managing this crisis” he said.

The Chairman also extended GONET’s heartfelt condolences to the people of Maiduguri and the entire Borno State following the devastating floods that have caused widespread displacement, destruction of homes, and severe damage to critical infrastructure.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, particularly families who have lost their homes and are struggling to survive during this difficult time.

Yusuf commended the ongoing efforts by local authorities, citizens, and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to provide emergency relief but noted that the scale of the disaster far exceeded local capacity.

Hence, he said that a more robust and coordinated international response was required to ensure that the affected communities receive the support they needed.
