Militant Group in Iraq Claims Drone Strike on Israeli Power Plant
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a Shiite militia group, claimed responsibility on Thursday for a drone strike targeting a power plant in northern Israel’s Haifa.
In a statement, the group announced its fighters hit the Alon Tavor Power Plant as a show of “solidarity with the people of Gaza.” The militia also vowed to continue its assaults on what it referred to as “the enemy’s strongholds.”
No details on casualties were provided, and Israeli officials have not yet responded to the reported attack.
Since the resurgence of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Oct. 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has carried out multiple assaults on Israeli and U.S. targets, aligning itself with Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
