The Nigerian Army emerged victorious at the 2024 Nigerian Armed Forces Games, winning a total of 264 medals, comprising 172 gold, 60 silver, and 32 bronze, in the competition held in Kaduna.
The Nigerian Air Force secured second place with 33 gold, 103 silver, and 51 bronze medals, totaling 187, while the Nigerian Navy finished third with 18 gold, 43 silver, and 68 bronze, making a total of 129 medals.
The event, which featured over 1,600 athletes from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, aimed to “Enhance Military Professionalism Through Sports” and prepare Nigeria’s team for the upcoming Africa Military Games scheduled for November 2024 in Abuja.
Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, commended the athletes for showcasing unity, discipline, and resilience, qualities that reflect military professionalism.
He emphasized that the games highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being in maintaining operational effectiveness amidst evolving security challenges.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, represented by Mr. Samuel Aruwan, praised the competition for fostering readiness among personnel to tackle contemporary security threats. He urged the military to maintain fitness and professionalism in their duties to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.
