The Benue State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Benjamin Msughaondo, in the state.

The victim was reportedly attacked and killed by a mob following an allegation of motorcycle theft. The incident occurred late Sunday night in the Major settlement area near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat.

Confirming the development on Friday in Makurdi, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, said the corps member was falsely accused and lynched without any form of verification.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the allegation against Msughaondo was unfounded, as documents recovered from him confirmed he was the rightful owner of the motorcycle in question.

Udeme disclosed that two individuals have been taken into custody, while security operatives are pursuing another suspect who remains at large.

“He was wrongly accused of stealing a motorcycle, and without verifying the claim, he was mobbed to death,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
