Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be released from federal prison in May 2028 after serving three-year sentence
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected to be released from federal prison on May 8, 2028, after serving roughly three years of a 50-month sentence.
According to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, Combs’ release date reflects credit for time already served while awaiting trial since his arrest in September 2024.
Earlier this month, the music executive was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being found guilty on two counts of interstate prostitution under the Mann Act, which prohibits traveling across state lines for illegal sexual activities. He was, however, acquitted of more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
Prosecutors had pushed for an 11-year sentence, but this marks Combs’ first criminal conviction. Alongside the prison term, the court imposed a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release. His legal team has announced plans to appeal the ruling.
During the eight-week trial, federal prosecutors accused Combs of using his influence in the entertainment industry to coerce women into sexual acts with paid sex workers. Among those who testified was his former girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who alleged that she was among his victims.
Prosecutors also claimed Combs led a criminal enterprise that helped conceal his alleged misconduct. The jury, however, cleared him of racketeering and trafficking charges but found sufficient evidence to convict him of violating the Mann Act.
Evidence presented during the trial included bank records showing payments made for sex workers to travel across the country for what were described as “freak-offs” — drug-fueled sexual encounters.
Combs’ defense team acknowledged that the music mogul had a history of violence in relationships but argued that the case was one of domestic abuse, not sex trafficking.
The 55-year-old producer and entrepreneur remains in federal custody as he serves out his sentence.
