Suspected Armed Robber Dies in Hospital After Shootout With Troops in Plateau

A suspected armed robber, identified as Mustapha Haruna, has died from gunshot wounds sustained during a shootout with troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that Haruna was injured during a gun battle with troops at Yelwa Zangam village in an earlier security operation aimed at apprehending suspected criminals in the area.

The suspect was receiving treatment at the Plateau State Hospital but was confirmed dead at about 6:58 a.m. on Friday.

His body has since been deposited at the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) mortuary pending further necessary action.

Sources said the incident stemmed from an earlier operation in which troops exchanged gunfire with the suspect while attempting to arrest him as part of ongoing security efforts in the area.
