Tinubu Appoints New Directors for NIA, DSS

President Bola Tinubu has appointed new heads for Nigeria’s intelligence agencies, naming Amb. Mohammed Mohammed as Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Mr. Adeola Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s spokesperson, announced the appointments in a statement released on Monday. Mohammed, who joined the NIA in 1995, has had an extensive career in foreign service, previously serving as Nigeria’s head of mission in Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, he has also served in countries such as North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan.

Ajayi, the new DSS chief, has steadily risen through the ranks, previously holding the position of Assistant Director-General. His career includes roles as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

The appointments come after the resignation of the former heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has tasked the new chiefs with improving the agencies’ effectiveness in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges, encouraging collaboration with other intelligence bodies and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The President also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
