Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside local vigilantes, have discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the Damboa–Bulabulin–Maiduguri road in Borno State.

Security sources said the device was discovered at about 1:30 p.m. on November 2, 2026, during a route-dominance patrol and escort of civilian vehicles by troops of 25 Brigade, Sector 2.

The IED was located approximately five kilometres before the Kumala checkpoint.
Following the discovery, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team moved to the location and successfully detonated the device.

The troops subsequently proceeded to Kumala checkpoint and continued their security duties. No casualty was recorded during the operation.

The discovery and clearance of the explosive device formed part of ongoing efforts to secure the major route, protect civilian commuters and prevent attacks on motorists by suspected terrorists.
