Troops Neutralise Explosive Device in Borno Community
Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully detected and neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mairari town along the Gajiram axis of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the device was discovered at about 9:00 a.m. on April 17 by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team conducting routine route clearance operations from a nearby Forward Operating Base.
The IED was reportedly located near the town’s exit gate, an area frequently used by both civilians and security personnel, heightening concerns over potential casualties.
The EOD unit carried out a controlled detonation of the device without any incident. Following the operation, the surrounding area was thoroughly scanned to rule out the presence of additional explosives.
Preliminary assessments indicate the device may have been planted by insurgents before troops were deployed to the location.
Sources added that while the overall security situation in the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable. Ongoing military operations continue to focus on securing vulnerable communities and key access routes.
