Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered items linked to insurgent activities during a fighting patrol and reconnaissance operation in Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the operation was conducted on June 3 by troops of 3 Battalion (Mechanised) under the 24 Task Force Brigade in the Wulgo axis and the proposed Combat Outpost (COP) Jegarawaji area.

According to the sources, the troops, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), carried out intensive cordon-and-search operations in Wulgo, Gumsari and Hausari communities.

The operation led to the discovery of indicators suggesting the presence and sustenance of terrorist elements in the area.

Items recovered included makeshift medical facilities containing blood transfusion materials and antibiotics, one round of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, and a uniform believed to belong to an insurgent commander.

The sources said one suspected terrorist was neutralised while attempting to escape during the operation.

No casualty was recorded among the troops, while one terrorist was killed.

Military authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to deny insurgents freedom of movement and dismantle their support infrastructure across the North-East theatre.

They added that troops’ morale and operational efficiency remained high, noting that although the general security situation in the area was calm, it remained highly unpredictable.

The operation is part of sustained offensive actions aimed at degrading the capabilities of terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin and surrounding communities.
