At least four people, including three students and a teacher, were killed when a student opened fire inside a middle school in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday, officials said. Around 20 others were injured, some critically, in what marks the country’s second school shooting in just two days.

The attack took place in Kahramanmaras province, where authorities said the assailant—an eighth-grade student—entered the school armed with multiple weapons. The governor, Mukerrem Unluer, said the student carried five firearms and seven magazines, believed to belong to his father, a retired police officer.

According to officials, the attacker entered two classrooms of younger students and fired indiscriminately, causing multiple casualties. The suspect later died at the scene.

Emergency services rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition and undergoing surgery. Footage from the scene showed ambulances arriving as police secured the area and concerned families gathered outside the school.

Justice Minister Akin Gurlek confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The shooting comes just a day after a separate attack in Sanliurfa province, where a former student opened fire at a school, injuring at least 16 people before taking his own life. School shootings are considered rare in Turkey, making the back-to-back incidents particularly alarming for authorities and the public.
