U.S., Nigeria Hold First Strategic Energy Dialogue in Washington

The inaugural U.S.-Nigeria Strategic Energy Dialogue is taking place from September 11 to 12 in Washington, D.C., aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between the two nations.

Leading the Nigerian delegation is Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, while Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources, heads the U.S. delegation. Senior officials from various U.S. agencies, including the Department of Energy and USAID’s Power Africa, are participating.

The discussions will focus on enhancing energy security, transitioning to cleaner energy, and improving Nigeria’s power sector. The dialogue also seeks to deepen private sector partnerships and expand investment opportunities in both countries’ energy industries.

This initiative builds on earlier bilateral engagements, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Nigeria and Assistant Secretary Pyatt’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu. The dialogue aims to create sustainable growth in the energy sector and deliver mutual prosperity.
