The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, has conducted airstrikes targeting ISIS-Somalia operatives.

According to a statement by U.S. Africa Command Public Affairs, the operation took place on February 1, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to degrade the terrorist group’s operational capacity.

AFRICOM’s initial assessment indicated that multiple ISIS-Somalia fighters were killed during the airstrikes, with no civilians harmed. The command reiterated that extensive measures are taken during operations to minimise the risk of civilian casualties, noting that civilian protection remains a core component of its mission to support a safer and more stable Africa.

The U.S. military said it would continue to assess the outcome of the operation and provide updates when appropriate. However, specific operational details were withheld to maintain operational security.

The latest strike follows a series of coordinated operations by U.S. and Somali forces against extremist groups in the region, including recent airstrikes targeting al-Shabaab and ISIS-Somalia as part of broader counterterrorism efforts.
